Classes: Core Curriculum & More

Our Adult Education program begins with our Core Curriculum, Classes 101-105: Alpha; Membership; Network; Evangelism; and Confirmation.  A description of Classes 101-105 follows. Every adult who attends CHS is expected to eventually take all five classes. Start with Alpha, Class 101, and walk through our core curriculum!  Some core classes meet on Friday or Wednesday evenings, others on Sunday from 10:00-10:50, others on Saturday mornings.

We also offer other education opportunities, such as Bible studies, and other level 200 courses, from time to time. These classes include occasional book study groups, and classes such as Restarting, Listening for Heaven's Sake, The Marriage Course, Financial Peace University, and Life in the Spirit Seminar.  Our Home Groups (Small Groups) are also great places to learn more about the Christian life, as we study the Bible and other helpful books.

At 10:00, we also have infant care in the Nursery and activities for small children in rooms 1&2.

Alpha - Class 101

Alpha is a basic introduction to the Christian faith taught around the world. Here we ask and help you to answer questions like, Who is Jesus? Why did he die? How do I pray? and How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? Questions and doubts are welcome...we will not pressure you to agree with us.

Invite your friends, all are welcome! We start with fellowship over a delicious meal, hear a half-hour talk, then break into small groups for an hour.   Call the Church office for timing of the next offering.
For more information see the Alpha North America web site.

New Members - Class 102

What is the New Members Class? It is our basic introduction to the Church of the Holy Spirit family. Since Church of the Holy Spirit is comprised of members from many different backgrounds, we've designed a course to help answer your questions about who and what Church of the Holy Spirit is. We cover our vision and values, Anglican essentials, and Membership Responsibilities. The class is offered in a four hour format and includes lunch.  Taught by our pastor, Clancy Nixon.  Call the office for details about the next class meeting.

Discover Your Gifts and Passion for Ministry (Network)- Class 103

What is Network? It is a course designed to help you to discern your calling to ministry, and serve in style! We do this by helping you to discover your spiritual gifts, passion for ministry, and personal style. Each person who completes the course will have a 90-minute personal consultation with a trained consultant to discuss where you can be most effective and fulfilled in ministry service. Call the office for details about the next class meeting.

Contagious Christianity Class 104

What is Contagious Christianity? This course will help you to witness with ease to your friends about your love of God in Christ. You will discover a way to do evangelism that is consistent with who God made you to be. In this course, you will practice telling your story, bringing up spiritual topics, answering common objections, and leading someone to Christ through safe, encouraging role playing. Call the office for details about the next class meeting.

Confirmation Class 105

Confirmation is not just for teenagers! It's for anyone who wants to reaffirm their baptismal vows with a mature profession of the classic and orthodox faith. This class is also for those coming to Holy Spirit and the Anglican Communion from a different tradition. It's a way of formally acknowledging your wider church family and coming fully under the spiritual covering of our bishop. You will learn about our Anglican heritage, our worship practices and our polity. One of our bishops will visit us, lay his hands on you, and pray for you. We offer separate classes for teens and adults.

For more information about any of these classes, please call our office at 703-726-0777.
