The first visitation of our new Bishop

On Sunday, May 28, 2006, we were greatly blessed by the first visitation of our new Bishop, The Right Reverend Benezeri Kisembo, and his wife, The Rev. Canon Lovey Kisembo. They were with us for confirmations and receptions, received us into the Anglican Church of Uganda-- and above all, they preached and shared the love of Jesus Christ.

What is the big deal about "Bishops"?

Bishops are Biblical. Bishops walk in the footsteps of the first apostles, and they oversee local pastors. They are guardians of faith and doctrine, chief evangelists, and overseers of the work of the whole Church. In the New Testament, Paul said this about Bishops, among other things:

“An overseer [bishop] must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” (Titus 1:7)

We have such a Bishop. Bishop Ben walks in the footsteps of the apostles. He and Lovey lived through persecution under the brutal dictatorship of Idi Amin, ministered to thousands of displaced refugees fleeing from the war across the Congolese border, planted churches, and brought healing and renewal ministries to Rewenzori Diocese. Bishop Ben was president of the Bible Society of Uganda, drawing on this PhD in Biblical Languages from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Lovey currently leads SOMA Uganda, a mission agency in the Anglican Communion that brings Charismatic Renewal to the church. During his six years as Bishop of Ruwenzori, the churches have multiplied, thousands of people have been led to Jesus Christ, and Bishop Kisembo has confirmed 25,000! (Thanks to Phil Ashey for much of this info.)

Grace, mercy and peace, Clancy+
